HAY at Salone Del Mobile 2018

HAY joined forces with Sonos and WeWork to explore the future of design, collaboration and living spaces. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Palazzo Clerici the trio created an immersive installation of design and sound.

Milan has no shortage of beautiful Palazzos and courtyards, and Palazzo Clerici is amongst its most charming. Located in Milan's "Contrada del prestino dei Bossi" district, it was named for the family of silk merchants and bankers from the Como Lake who resided there in the 17th Century.

For HAY the ornate surroundings provided a counterfoil to the new releases and colourways previewed at the event. The set design and colour palette was determined by their co-founder Mette Hay who said "For me, colour is one of the most important tools in the design process, and it was very important we didn’t just create a colour scale that looked beautiful. Colours can hide completely and disappear or provide contrast."

HAY was certainly one of the most prolific brands at this year's Salone Del Mobile, whilst it was largely a quiet year in terms of new releases. HAY ran counter to the prevailing trend with thirteen new products and a bevvy of new finishes and fabrics to choose from.

Élémentaire Chair by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

HAY's Élémentaire Chair is the result of the Bouroullec Brothers quest to design the perfect plastic chair. The project has been several years in the making and utilises the latest technology to ensure robustness and affordability whilst retaining a sense of delicacy.

Cone Table by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

The Palissade Cone Table by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec is suitable for indoor or outdoor use, It's ultra-slim tabletop and solid base create a sense of balance without the bulk. Specifically designed to complement the Palissade series, it adds a new cafe table option to the HAY outdoor collection and will be available in several colourways.

Revolver Low Stool by Leon Ransmeier

A new lower version of Ransmeier's popular design. Like the original Revolver Stool it features a seat that can rotate 360 degrees through use of a ball bearing mechanism.

Bernard Chair by Shane Schneck

To us at least, The Bernard Lounge Chair recalls Scandinavian design classics of the early and mid 20th Century. Shane Schneck's aim is to create a new, affordable design classic with this contemporary easy chair. There is a pleasing contrast between the solidity of the oak frame and the visually light cover available in either leather or canvas, that slots cleverly over the wooden structure.

Triangle Table by Simon Jones.

Technically released at the Stockholm Furniture fair the HAY Triangle Table series by Simon Jones features a triangular leg detail which conveys a sense of lightness. The table top's rounded edges allow for more seating space. It is pictured here with the J42 chair which is the sturdier, contract suitable counterpart to their ever popular J77 chair.

Eiffel Shelving by Line Depping & Jacob Jørgensen

Based on a simple layering principle, this versatile collection of shelving and side tables by Depping & Jørgensen was first seen at the Mindcraft exhibition during Salone Del Mobile 2015. HAY have now brought the series into production. The structures are crafted from cast aluminium and powder coated mdf.

New 'Hot Galvanised' finish for Palissade Collection by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

A new hot-dip galvanised finish is available for the popular Palissade outdoor series. The process involves dippng fabricated steel into a vat of molten zinc to create a finish that is incredibly corrosion resistant, it looks incredible too.

Silhouette Sofa by GamFratesi for HAY

GamFratesi have designed Silhouette Sofa, its shape characterised by the gentle curve of the sofa back. A delicate balancing act of compact proportions, with a slim profile and deep cushions that is perfect for compact spaces. The legs can be supplied in metal or solid wood, and there is a variety of textiles to choose from for both the upholstery and piping elements.

Rebar Coffee Table by Sylvain Willenz

Sylvain Willenz's Rebar side table collection explores the use of industrial materials in a domestic context. The frame is made from reinforced steel, that is contrasted by black marble tops and lightweight metal trays for balance.

Fifty-Fifty Table Light by Sam Weller

With the Fifty-Fifty table light, Sam Weller's aim was 'to try and create something unique, refined and highly functional.' By stripping the conventional task light back to its fundamental elements the silhouette is sleek and refined. A counterbalance weight is used on the cantilever frame and a touch dimmer is located atop the diffuser.

Marselis Table Light by KaschKasch

Inspired by Danish street signs, the Marselis table light designed by KaschKasch features a rotating head so the light provided can be direct or indirect. The diffuser is injection moulded and the body is die-cast aluminium.

Cornet Stool by Jonas Trampedach

The Cornet barstool is deceptively classic looking. It is in fact crafted in a unique way, the designer Jonas Trampedach taking inspiration from an innovative manufacturing process normally used to manufacture bike racks. It is available in two heights and several colourways.

Butler by Shane Schneck

A multi-functional solid oak stool, stepladder or side table depending on how you choose to use it, with the HAY Butler stool Shane Schneck wanted to create a stepladder for 'modern urban lifestyles.'
