Hay team up with renowned designer Naoto Fukasawa to create Pao, a pendant light named for the soft, glowing shape of traditional Mongolian Pao tents illuminated at night-time.

Japanese designer Fukasawa is known for his subtle, beautiful designs that at first appear simple, but are often the result of painstaking research and refinement. His Pao Steel Pendant light developed with Hay is no exception.

The inspiration for Pao comes from a trip to from a trip to Mongolia, where traditional nomadic tents, referred to locally as a ‘Yurt’ or in Japanese ‘Pao’, illuminated the landscape at night. For Fukasawa these glowing forms conveyed notions of 'warmth' and 'the safety of home', for him, universal qualities that he seeks to emulate within the design for the Pao light.

These precisely pressed steel shades offer warm, directional light and have a super-high gloss finish. They come in three sizes, in a soft black, cool grey or cream white finish. The smallest version is also available in a luminous red shade.

Featuring a flush acrylic (PMMA) diffuser, there are no external features or fittings visible on the surface, resulting in a seamless, clean aesthetic.
