The 1960s were a period of great experimentation and creativity in Italian lighting design, and there is no company more associated with this innovative period than Flos. Working with designers such as Pier Giacomo and Achille Castiglioni at their creative peak, they developed iconic table lamps such as Taccia and Snoopy as well as the Arco Floor Lamp, one of the world's most desired (and oft-imitated) designs.
Flos is also synonymous with 'The Cocoon Technique', originally used by the US Army as a protective material for packaging, this special resin sprayed on a steel structure gave birth to several iconic pieces designed by the Castiglioni brothers and Tobia Scarpa such as the Taraxacum Pendant Light.
The late 90s and early 2000s were another time of huge success for the company, seeing the release of the now ubiquitous Glo-ball series by Jasper Morrison as well as high profile collaborations such as the Spun Light by Sebastian Wrong, Mayday by Konstantin Grcic and the Tab Light by Barber and Osgerby
Flos continue to challenge our perceptions of how lighting should relate to people and environments with projects such as the String lights by Michael Anastassiades that prove the company can still lead the way in decorative lighting.
