Vico Magistretti was born in Milan, the city in which he graduated in architecture in 1945. It was there that his professional career developed, chiefly in the fields of architecture, town planning and industrial design. Furniture, lamps and other objects that he designed may be found all over the world. Several design museums have given exhibitions in his honour and kept examples of his work in their permanent collections.
In 1983, he was made Honorary Fellow at the Royal College of Art, London. Here, he later was appointed Honorary Professor in 1990 and Senior Fellow in 1996. As a designer, Vico Magistretti worked with companies such as Artemide, Campeggi, Cassina, De Padova, Fontana Arte, Fritz Hansen, Oluce and Thonet.
