Marc Merckx & Pieter Maes balance the principle of reduction with craftsmanship in contemporary design
Belgian designers Marc Merckx and Pieter Maes share a philosophy of reduction, emphasising light structures and robust materials. Merckx spent 15 years at Vincent Van Duysen Architects as design director, overseeing projects and crafting furniture for global brands. Maes, an independent designer since 2006, gained experience in studios across Europe, blending artistry with technical precision.
With meticulous attention to proportion and craftsmanship, the duo debuted their first edited series, Illum, for Tribù in 2015.
