Designer Alberto Meda was born in 1945 in Tremezzina, near Lake Como in Italy. He studied mechanical engineering at the Milan Polytechnic and went to work first at Kartell, an Italian design brand specialising in plastics from 1972 to 1979. Following this period Meda decided to go freelance and worked with several notable companies including Luceplan, Phillips, Olivetti and Vitra. Many of these companies still work with him to this day.
In addition to his design practice, Meda also taught industrial technology at the Domus Academy, Milan and the University IUAV of Venice. He has also been a guest lecturer in places such as Chicago, St. Louis (Washington University), Stockholm, Boisbuchet (Vitra Design Museum Workshops), Miami, São Paulo, Ulm, Istanbul and Toronto.
His practical designs, such as his celebrated Meda Chair for Vitra, are known the world over; a deft combination of comfort and technology.
