The Gardeners' Retreat, Norfolk - Kiwi & Pom

London based design studio Kiwi & Pom were enlisted in 2020 to design The Gardeners' Retreat. A multipurpose retail and dining space set within the Highway Garden Centre, Norfolk.

Kiwi & Pom wanted to evoke the sense of sitting in a hothouse with their design. Taking inspiration from gardening materials and processes, the studio used ribbed polycarbonate sheeting throughout the setting. This insulating material commonly used in greenhouse construction served a double purpose, providing both visual unity and spatial division throughout the interior.

Lush vegetation nestles throughout the space. Plants line the walls from behind custom-made banquette seating, and freestanding planters are generously situated throughout. This verdant theme continues with the carefully considered blend of textures and tones used in the furniture selection.

Viaduct assisted Kiwi & Pom with sourcing furniture for the project, including designs from Hay and Fest Amsterdam. Rich hunter and emerald greens mix with silvery pastel tones. Kiwi & Pom offset this vibrant colour palette using light woods, wicker, and black tubular steel details that add contrast and definition to the environment.
