Marks & Spencer were re-entering the Belgian market with a new flagship store and café on the Toison d’Or promenade in Brussels, Belgium. Kiwi & Pom were commissioned to design an M&S Café space for the flagship.
Marks & Spencers wanted a contemporary space with a premium feel that complemented the rest of their flagship Belgian store.
Situated on the Rue Toison D'Or, the modern building drew inspiration from the organic flowing forms of architect Victor Horta, and so too did Kiwi & Pom for the interior details. The designers chose a rich layering of gold wire wall art, curved plaster walls and marble.
A soft, neutral palette of carrara marble, soaped oak and polished plaster was used to maximise the natural luminesence of the interior.

Wooden flooring and banquette seating in muted pastels warmed up the space. Olive trees and plants provide a verdant freshness that contrasts with the pale woods and pastels.
A light installation of 50 clear glass pendants was supplied by Viaduct and installed over the dining area with mirrored panels installed on the adjoining wall to maximise the effect, reflecting light throughout the interior.
The furniture supplied by Viaduct, nodded to the traditional bistro aesthetic but with a contemporary lightness of touch. Pieces selected included the Basel Chair by Jasper Morrison and the Sloane Table by e15, pared back pieces with simple forms elevated by craftsmanship, careful material selection and attention to detail.
