The Torii Stool gets its name from the gateway to sacred Japanese Shinto shrines, and can also be translated as 'bird abode'. The stool's characteristic perch-like backrest and closely spaced legs emulate its Eastern influence, and conceal an inherent sturdiness.

The stool has passed Level 2 testing for commercial use, and has been crafted with traditional joinery methods to not only strengthen, but also express the honest intent of the design.

With the extension of the Torii's legs comes the addition of a foot rest for extra stability, which is further protected by a solid aluminium strip. The seat, in either plywood or leather upholstery, has been secured with dowels and special metal fittings, while the backrest is joined with steel dowels and epoxy glue.

The Torii Stool is available online in black stained ash, white oak or walnut with a black leather seat, or black stained ash with a plywood seat.
