Founder Niels Bendtsen's love of design stemmed from exposure to his father's work as a cabinet maker, who first learnt his craft from Jacob Kjær in Copenhagen. As an adult, Niels left Canada to return to his father's native Scandinavia where he worked with high profile brands such as IKEA and Kebe, for whom he designed the Ribbon Chair that now holds a place in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection.
After returning to Vancouver from Europe, Niels founded Bensen furniture with an aim to provide great designs and quality at an accessible price. He joined forces with Paolo Chiarot to share his designs with Europe again. From their Italian factory, they now produce bestselling pieces such as the mid-century inspired Edward Sofa, Tokyo and Torii Chairs.
