Originally commissioned for a travelling exhibition, the Wooden Chair is a prime example of designer Marc Newson's desire to realise the full potential of materials.

The chair comprises multiple strips of beech wood that have been bent using a traditional steam bending technique and turned over on themselves to create a seat. The slats are then strengthened with multiple horizontal braces around the curve and at each end of the chair.

The design fuses simple lines with a complex construction; an inherently hard material transformed into a fluid silhouette. The result is a curvaceous easy chair with a sculptural appeal that would make an intriguing statement piece in any number of interiors.
